Top 8 Upcoming Anime for the Summer Season

With the spring season leaving us with some of the most hyped anime sequels such as Attack on Titan and My Hero Academia, it is safe to say that it was a great season for anime. However, I will be counting down some anime that I am personally interested in and hope you guys try them out.

#8 Vatican Kiseki Chousakan

Vatican City—Holy Land of the Catholics. Amidst the land, there is an organisation that conducts rigorous investigations on “claims of miracles” from all over the world to ascertain their credibility. The organisation is referred to as “Seito no Za” (Assembly of Saints) and the priests that belong there are called miracle investigators. Robert Nicholas, an ancient archive and cryptanalysis expert is partnered and good friends with Hiraga Josef Kou, a genius scientist. Together, the brilliant duo investigates the “miracles” and uncovers the incidents and conspiracies hidden behind them.

While this anime sounds quite interesting,  I doubt it will be one of the most hyped anime of the season,  however, I believe it’s worth watching as it sounds very original in plot and the art style looks very unique,  who knows, maybe this one will be our hidden gem of the season.

After THE REFLECTION, some of the people in all parts of the world are discovered with super powers. Some become heroes, and others villains. How did the Reflection happen? What was the cause of it? With many unsolved mysteries, the world is lead into turmoil.

My first opinion of the synopsis of this anime was “this is just a My Hero rip off” but after reading it again I realised that this anime takes the concept of My Hero and turns it around, as we now try to unravel what caused this phenomenon to take place. For those interested in a superhero story that’s not your usual shonen, then this might just be for you.

#6 Netsuzou TRap

Yuma and Hotaru have been friends since childhood, so it’s only natural that when Yuma is nervous about her new boyfriend, she asks Hotaru for advice. But when Hotaru starts coming onto Yuma for what feels like more than just ‘practice,’ what does it mean…? With boyfriends in the foreground but a secret, passionate tryst in the background, will Yuma and Hotaru try to forget what happened between them or have they fallen into a trap of true love and betrayal?

Now this one took me by surprise. Finally a Yuri anime with an interesting plot to it and not just the usual “cute girls doing cute things” we always get with the genre. This anime also reminds me of Scrum’s Wish in premise but not as disturbing as it is realistic in a sense. This anime will definitely not be for everyone, but nonetheless us Yuri fans will all jump right in.

#5 Knight’s and Magic

A mecha otaku is reincarnated into another world as Ernesti Echevarria, also known as Eru. In this world, huge humanoid weapons known as Silhouette Knights exist. Dreaming of piloting those robots, Eru and his friends, Archid Olter and Adeltrud Olter, aim to become Knight Runners.

Yay, another anime about an otaku reincarnating in a somewhat video game kind world plot, as if there aren’t enough already, but what can we say, the anime community (myself included) cannot get enough of it and this one is different for two reasons,  Mechs and a possible tournament arc.  Great stuff.

#4 Kakegurui

Hyakkaou Private Academy. An institution for the privileged with a very peculiar curriculum. You see, when you’re the sons and daughters of the wealthiest of the wealthy, it’s not athletic prowess or book smarts that keep you ahead. It’s reading your opponent, the art of the deal. What better way to hone those skills than with a rigorous curriculum of gambling? At Hyakkaou Private Academy, the winners live like kings, and the losers are put through the wringer. But when Yumeko Jabami enrols, she’s gonna teach these kids what a high roller really looks like!

Guess we ran put of sports anime and it’s now time to delve into the world of gambling, actually quite an original idea, and let us make it about high school kids with rich parents because why not? But seriously now,  this anime adapts a manga by the same name and quite the good manga at that so if anything this anime has definitely caught my eyes.

#3 Fate/Apocrypha

The setting is a parallel world to Fate/stay night where the Greater Grail mysteriously disappeared from Fuyuki after the Third Holy Grail War. After many years of silence, around the same time as the Fifth Holy Grail War would have happened, the Yggdmillennia, a family of magi, openly declares their secession from the Mage’s Association, and that they are in possession of the Grail. The Association dispatches fifty magi to retrieve it, and all but one are instantly slaughtered by a mysterious Servant. The one remaining manages to activate the reserve system of the Greater Grail, allowing for the summoning of fourteen Servants in total. In the city of Trifas, two factions will fight for the control of the sacred relic, each of them possessing their own team of seven Servants : the Black Faction whose members are part of Yggdmillennia, protecting the Grail, and the Red Faction whose members were sent by the Mage’s Association, trying to take the Grail back. For an event of this scale, the Grail itself summons its own Servant, the holy Ruler, to oversee the conflict.
This marks the start of the Great Holy Grail War.

Another Fate anime, whether you are a fan of the original visual novel series and watched all the anime or an anime only, this is great news for us, however, this time it’s not the brilliant studio Ufotable bringing this anime to life with its stunning animation, it is none other than A-1 pictures a studio infamous for being a hit and miss with its anime and this is no exception. While the Fate series is one of the most beloved anime series out there, it has much room for error, let us hope they adapt this one well.

#2 Gamers!

This is a story that revolves around certain students and one hobby. Amano Keita is our lonely protagonist who has a passion for gaming and is friends with Uehara Tasuku, who is secretly a fellow gamer and is someone who believes his life is perfect. We also have Karen Tendou, the club president of the video games club and Chiaki Hoshinomori, who constantly bickers with Keita. This is a story filled with a non-stop sequence of comedy scenes and misunderstandings. Our chaotic romantic comedy now begins!

(Source: MAL News)

An anime about games that doesn’t involve the MC going inside the game or reincarnating in a pseudo-game world? Yes! And this one is a comedy too, no more are the days of stupidly edgy anime about emo gamers trapped inside a death game, gone are the days of SAO rip-offs that are actually better than SAO, we have reached the era where an anime about gamers acting like more or less normal humans, and making jokes about the culture we enjoy so much is upon us. If you want a slice of life anime about a gaming club talking about games and being funny about it then this one is for you!

#1 Koi to Uso

(Source: MAL News)

And here is the top pick, the must watch anime for the season. Our romance drama that will fill the void in our hearts and provide us with the feels that Tsuki Ga Kirei and Fukumenkei Noise left within us. This anime is most likely going to be the anime all of us drama fans will be hanging on to for our fixture of feels trips we so desperately. The concept sounds very appealing and the character designs look so unique and wonderful for the lack of better words. For those of us who just love having our hearts broken by a good romance drama, this anime will probably be one of the best this next season has to offer.

Thank you for reading and if there is an anime that you guys feel should have made the list, please don’t hesitate to tell us in the comments and follows us for more on geek culture!
